Artifact Donations
The Medal of Honor Host City Museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the extraordinary stories of bravery, sacrifice, and service represented by Medal of Honor recipients. Our collection relies heavily on the generosity of individuals who donate artifacts, ensuring that future generations can learn about the valor and history of these American heroes.
Your donation helps enrich our museum’s exhibits, providing a tangible connection to the past and contributing to the ongoing mission of honoring and educating the public about the Medal of Honor. Whether it’s a personal item belonging to a recipient, military memorabilia, or an artifact tied to the legacy of the Medal of Honor, each piece plays an important role in telling the story of these exceptional individuals and their contributions to our nation.
What we collect:

Trench art, battlefield souvenirs, gifts from home, lucky charms, soldiers’ loot, personal mementos, and challenge coins

Commercial illustrative art, contemporary drawings, and other artistic works related to military history.

Artifacts that bring a human dimension to the everyday life of a soldier, including personal gear and accessories

Awards, medals, and honors reflecting military service across all eras, particularly those associated with Medal of Honor recipients.

Flags and pennants, and other fabric-based items with military significance.

Military uniforms from various time periods and branches of service.

Documents
Official reports, training manuals, diaries, maps, personal papers, stamps

Literature related to the Medal of Honor or Medal of Honor recipients and military history

What We Do Not Collect:
While we greatly appreciate all offers, we accept items that directly relate to the Medal of Honor, the personal histories of its recipients, and select military history artifacts that align with the Museum’s mission and collection focus. We cannot accept items that are in poor condition, duplicates of existing artifacts, or those that do not meet these criteria.
Donation Inquiries
We appreciate your interest in donating to the Medal of Honor Host City Museum! The Medal of Honor Host City Museum accepts artifact donations that align with our mission and support our educational goals. Due to the large number of offers we receive and to ensure the safety of your items, we do not accept unsolicited material through the mail or in person without prior communication. Due to storage capacity and preservation constraints, the Medal of Honor Host City Museum cannot accept all donated artifacts. Do you have an item you would like to be considered for donation? Please review the donation guidelines below and complete the form. Our museum team will contact you as soon as possible.
Museum personnel are not permitted to appraise donated items for tax purposes, nor can they offer appraisal services of any kind. Donors seeking a tax deduction are encouraged to consult a qualified tax professional or attorney. A tax receipt will be provided in the format of a Deed of Gift upon completion of your donation. Items must have a clear title and be free of copyright restrictions.
Not all accepted items are guaranteed to be displayed in an exhibit. The museum upholds the ethical duty to preserve donated items to the best of the institution’s ability.
All donated items are accepted on a conditional basis, with a final decision subject to an evaluation by museum staff.
Please note the Museum does not accept gifts as long-term loans or donations with conditions or restrictions.
If, after evaluation, an item cannot be accepted into the Museum's collection, the donor will be notified accordingly. The donor will then have 30 days to retrieve the item. After this period, the Museum reserves the right to dispose of the item at its discretion.
